A frightening nite...

...a backdated post

It happened on Monday, July 2nd.

Mika went up to bed at 9.15pm and I was watching tv. The show ended at 9.30pm n feeling tired, I decided to sleep early.

When I went into Mika's bedroom, he's still reading a book. Then I hopped onto his bed and chatted, snuggled under the blankey. Suddenly I smelt something burning and quickly got up to check the room. Everything's fine. Hopped back to bed with him...but the smell was pretty bad n I heard some loud banging noise from next door.

So I went out of the room, headed into my room and looked out of the window...to my absolute horror, my whole neighbourhood was outside right in front of my house shouting for us! I was shocked! They shouted that there's a fire next door and I cant believe my eyes when I saw thick smoke billowing out from that house. I shouted for Mika n told him there's a fire n we ran downstairs. While I was opening the door, my neighbour told me to take all important documents and get out of the house quick. I started to panic when I heard that. I took Mika out first and went in to take whatever that came into my mind...seriously I dont know what to take so I just grabbed my handbag, the envelope that contains important documents and the car key. My heart was beating extremely fast n my legs were shaking but I managed to drive the car out n parked down the road. Then I ran back to where Mika was. I never expected this to happen in a residential area!! And I was out in my pjs n bra-less!

The smoke was really thick n the smell was really bad! I was scared...my legs were still feeling wobbly while I was holding Mika very closely to me n prayed that the fire dont spread...my house is just next to it! Luckily the fire engine came fast enough n the hydrant was working n the fire put out. It started from the main circuit board. So dangerous! We dont know it was a short circuit or overloading. I managed to talk to the daughter that nite and she told me that the heat was so intense that she cant even step onto the floor when she wanted to get back in the house to retrieve some important docs. Her parents were away when this happened. Then I told her about the loud noise I heard and she said no one managed to get upstairs when the fire broke out. So the 'banging noise' that I heard was some mini explosions! Just imagine it was happening just a brick wall away from me n Mika. I really did not hear them shouting for us until the burning smell came in!! Maybe we were at the back room. One of my neighbours tried calling my handphone but I've switched off to charge! And my doorbell isnt working! After that incident, I leave my hp on 24/7.

After the drama, Mika then blurted out "can I get back home now, my school bus is coming soon and i need to get some sleep"! Everyone laughed cos he was quiet thru out the commotion. It was close to 11pm then. I went to check out that everything is save and drove the car back and got into the house. Bathe n changed our pjs. The smell inside my house was bad...n in the rooms too. That nite I turned on all the ceiling fans thru out the nite. It was bad n toxic but we had no choice. It was a sleepless nite for me n was so worried that inhaling the toxic fumes thru out the nite may harm my little boy n all sorts of 'what if' about the fire kept running thru my mind! It was scary. The smell from the fire lingered on for 2days...

The next morning I saw my neighbour's house was cordoned off pending investigation from the Bomba unit. I heard that the tv n air-con melted due to the intense heat. But luckily the fire was confined to the store room and the 2nd living room. The smell from the fire still lingered at their home till today. They only started renovations and re-wiring last two days cos the Bomba unit took ages to finalise the report. Cant wait for the whole family to move back into their house soon. It's so dark n quiet now...

Most importantly everyone's safe and thank God that it did not happen when everyone's fast asleep.

Isnt it safer to have a fire extinguisher at home now?

thank goodness u are both okay... yes, having a fire extinguisher is definitely a good idea, but most importantly, learn and remember how to use it.

as for mika, i hope there is no aftershock, and u will have to be of constant support to him... although i guess u need a little comforting yourself, poor you :)

take care~

I'm so thankful nothing happened to you and Mika. It must quite terrifying. Did you find out what caused the fire? Our neighbor's house was on fire too...and we weren't at home during that time. Luckily, the neighbor on his other side was having a water graduation party. The kids saw the smoke and started to douse the house with the water they have. My neighbor's daughter left her candles burning in her room..and that caused the fire.

Hi! Thk u. How r u doin? So happy to hear from u all the time. Eventhough how dusty n unattended this home is...u still visit! *love u for that*

Abt the fire, well i also want to know the exact cause of it but hvnt got a chance to bump into them to ask. Checked w the electrician working there n he said overloading! It's kinda irresponsible but it's best to talk to the owner. Eventho bomba n police hv given green light to start reno...u know M'sia anything pun boleh!! *sigh*

luckily nothing happened to u n yr family n da house whn the fire broke out at ur neighbour's!! So careless of her...these thgs do happen n it's so scary!*sigh*

Oh dear! That must be a horrifying experience for the both of you!
I think if that happends to me I don't know if I can even find the key!!!!

Thank God no one was hurt.

Yeah, it's always good to keep an estinguisher in the house but then again... where??? The fire can break out anywhere! I'm a pessimistic person when it comes to stuff like this... :|
